Your portal to the world
14 March 2007 You can now be anywhere in the world you want with slangcast new "video suite" be your own global broadcaster. CONTACT: John Templeton, 800-503-0034 SlangCast offers video chat without downloads on your computer or web-enabled camera phone February 2, 2007 -- SlangCast, a provider of live Internet video-conferencing, disclosed today that its latest generation product allows real-time cellphone video chat, enabled by technology that does not require software downloads. "Remember Dick Tracy and his video watch? Combine that with the Star Trek communicator used by Captain Kirk and you have an image of what SlangCast can do," says John Templeton, a partner in the growing telecom start-up. "It s now possible to 'see who you are talking to on any web-enabled, camera cellphone through our novel approach." SlangCast already provides this same capability via computer Internet access through its subscriber-based, video-conferencing service. For $39.95 per month, four visitors, equipped with webcams and headphones, can meet and videoconference in a SlangCast chat suite that is equipped with four video screens. An additional 16 "viewing" guests can participate with or without headphones. Templeton explains that 20-person "suites" are suitable for small- to medium-size business meetings or other gatherings. PowerPoint presentations can also be fed through optimized SlangCast video suites, with up to four speakers also being viewed at any given time. For higher capacity meetings, the Slangcast PowerPoint suites can accommodate up to 196 viewing guests or a total of 200 people. Customized applications have also been developed to accommodate higher-capacity viewing audiences of 500 or more. SlangCast is also "upload-friendly" with MySpace, says Templeton, who believes that "seeing" who s on the other side can eliminate predator problems, helping parents rest easier. He says it is the simplicity of SlangCast that makes it so versatile. The video conferencing capability works just as well in educational and corporate applications, as it does for consumer chat, "virtual" tourism or real estate, where agents can walk interested customers through a property using their camera cellphone. Education is an application that Templeton feels especially passionate about. "I want to see SlangCast in the classroom," he explains. "One inexpensive webcam on each classroom computer can enable a hospitalized child to attend school remotely, not to mention kids who are ill for the day." From an economic standpoint, this could also help schools reclaim revenue that is ordinarily lost when students are absent. On a broader scale, Templeton say he can easily envision an international classroom where educators and students from around the world meet in a virtual classroom via the Internet. "Because Slangcast operates without any download requirements, it can be used on virtually any computing platform," he explains, adding that some competing video cast services admit to having problems operating on Mac systems. Recent SlangCast milestones include: * Sept. '06 -- First global video system requiring no application download * Sept 06 -- SlangCast uploads into MySpace.com with no integration issues * Nov. 06 -- Global video cast with PowerPoint to more than 500 guests * Nov. 06 -- Global broadcast inviting 91,000 company sales reps to view a new product launch, staged using a laptop computer, webcam and two lap-top batteries, with Internet access via a cellphone enabled with Bluetooth. No power or Internet services were available onsite and the global broadcast lasted 7 hours and 45 minutes * Nov. '06 -- Client began daily use of SlangCast with manufacturing partners in China * Dec. '06 -- SlangCast demos first cellphone-to-cellphone video-conference that required no cell minutes usage Templeton says SlangCast is compatible with all cellular carriers and cellphone instruments, again due to the no download feature. "We look forward to demonstrating SlangCast on the Apple iPhone when it is available this summer," he adds. To receive a SlangCast demonstration, just visit www.slangcast.com and enter the demo suite. Templeton is known for writing the "1000 minutes for $99" market launch for Sprint PCS; Hunold was on the software development team for HerbalLife and is credited as one of principal architects of that software application. Templeton and Hunold also develop eCommerce applications that utilize voice broadcasting to market products and services to businesses and residences. The team s customer base includes: Caribbean Merchants, Aetna Insurance, the American Heart Association, the Parkinson s Foundation, Blue Cross & Blue Shield, Bridgestone Tires and Yellow Pages, as well as numerous chambers of commerce and medical applications supporting hospital outpatient services and medical professionals in private practice.
