Yahoo! Canada Begins Open Beta Test of New Yahoo! Mail

22 March 2006

Yahoo! Canada Co., an affiliate of Yahoo! Inc., a leading global internet company, today announced the start of a beta test in Canada of a new version of Yahoo! Mail (http://mail.yahoo.ca) - the No. 1 Web mail service in the world(*). The Yahoo! Mail beta provides a faster experience with enhanced functionality, such as drag and drop e-mail organization, message preview panes and an integrated RSS reader. Like the current Yahoo! Mail experience, the new version is browser-based, making it universally accessible from any computer connected to the Internet, without the need for a software download. The beta incorporates Oddpost technology and provides the most significant enhancement to the Yahoo! Mail interface and user experience since its launch in 1997.

Rogers Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet customers will also be able to enjoy a beta test of the new service on Rogers Yahoo! Mail (http://rogers.yahoo.com/mail).

The beta also recently became available in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Germany, France and Korea, and will be rolled-out to all Yahoo! Mail users in Canada and those markets in the coming weeks. Yahoo! intends to make the new version available to all users worldwide after the completion of beta testing. Beta testers will be able to toggle between the different versions of Yahoo! Mail in order to try the new interface.

"This beta gives Canadians a faster and more dynamic way to experience Yahoo! Mail and Rogers Yahoo! Mail, yet continues to offer the same features they rely upon today: great anti-spam and virus protection, tons of storage, it's all there," said Naomi Lipowski, Senior Product Manager, Yahoo! Mail. "We're looking forward to receiving feedback on the beta as we continue the development process."

Highlights of the beta version of Yahoo! Mail and Rogers Yahoo! Mail include increased speed and features such as:

- Fast and easy-to-use interface that functions like a desktop client

application

- Drag-and-drop message organization

- Reading panes to instantly view messages

- Comprehensive and speedy search of e-mail headers, bodies, and

attachments

- Ability to view multiple e-mails at the same time, using tabbed

navigation

- Integrated RSS reader, providing access to breaking news, blog

entries, and other feeds directly in the Web mail experience

- Automatic check and delivery of new mail

- Keyboard shortcuts and right click menus

- Ability to scroll through all message headers in a folder, rather

than page by page

- Address autocomplete

- Industry-leading protection from spam and viruses

- Available on Firefox (Mac/Windows) and Internet Explorer (Windows

only)

- Remains free on Yahoo! Canada, supported by advertisers. Rogers

Yahoo! Hi-Speed Internet customers receive the beta via Rogers Yahoo!

Mail as part of their Internet subscription.

Integrated RSS Reader

The Yahoo! Mail beta gives users access to breaking news, blog entries, and other feeds directly in their Web mail experience through an easy-to-use, integrated RSS reader. This feature brings together online content from a variety of sources, and makes it easy to forward select news clips and blog postings to friends and co-workers, or file for future use.

Yahoo! Mail beta users can read RSS feeds by clicking on the 'All RSS Feeds' icon, which appears below the user's e-mail folders. This automatically provides users with access to full posts - whether from their personalized My Yahoo! page, a selection of the most popular feeds or favourite feeds that they manually enter. In addition, many popular aspects of Canadian sites such as macleans.ca, globeandmail.com, and moneysense.ca are already included in the RSS reader, enabling Canadian Yahoo! Mail users to read the content that is most relevant to them while checking their e-mail.

About Yahoo! Mail

Launched in October 1997, Yahoo! Mail is the Web's largest, most popular free e-mail service globally. Yahoo! Mail helps people stay in touch at home, at work, or while traveling for business or pleasure, and is available in 21 languages. Yahoo! Mail is fully integrated with Yahoo!'s many other popular services to make it easy to access all the Internet services people need. Yahoo! Mail has recently received Editors' Choice awards from both PC Magazine and CNET.
