Winter Storms and New York Transit Strike Drive Second Consecutive Visitor Record for Internet Broadcasting In December

Internet Broadcasting, an online news innovator, today announced a record 12.94 million online visitors for December 2005, a year-over-year increase of 29 percent. The company's comprehensive online local coverage of weather and news events during the period contributed to its second consecutive record traffic month, outpacing major industry competitors. The company co-produces NBCOlympics.com plus 73 TV station web sites for America's premier broadcasters: NBC, Cox Broadcasting, Hearst-Argyle, The McGraw Hill Companies, Post-Newsweek, Scripps Howard, and Capitol Broadcasting Company.

The 12.94 million visitors, as measured by Nielsen//NetRatings, exceeded the company's previous high of 12.91 million visitors set the previous month and places Internet Broadcasting ahead of notable news sites like AOL News, NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, and Google News. Additionally, the record traffic made Internet Broadcasting the 45th largest online brand overall as measured by Nielsen's U.S. brand rankings for December.

Because Internet Broadcasting has a national reach, a variety of news and weather stories across the country accounted for most of the visitor sessions. In December, traffic spiked because of several winter storms that broke out across the East Coast, Midwest, and Southern California, as well as news on the transit strike in New York.

«Our visitors continue to rely upon their trusted news sources for information that affects their daily lives such as storms and breaking news,» said Julie Burrows, Internet Broadcasting's executive vice president. «In addition to record visitors, increased traffic to our weather radar and school closing tools resulted in significant page view increases, including our fourth largest day on record and four of our top 25 highest page view days ever.»

The visitor total represents an aggregation of users across Internet Broadcasting's national platform of 73 TV station web sites including WNBC.com (New York), NBC4.tv (Los Angeles), and TheBostonChannel.com.
