Web Users Take Risks While Browsing the Web and Rely on CallingID to Verify the Sites They Visit for Protection From Internet Fraud
3 May 2006 CallingID, leading provider of safe browsing solutions, today published results of a survey done among its users. The results show that over 90% are concerned about identity theft but 38% of them admit to visiting sites suspected as fraud, 29% followed links to phishing sites; 9% bought from unsafe vendors assuming they can cancel the transaction if something goes wrong. The survey, based on 1250 responses, showed that the majority of users employ CallingID to see who owns sites they visit and subsequently, do more business over the Internet. 86% use online banking -- most use CallingID to make sure they are accessing their bank's website. Many of them execute transactions in their accounts: -- 55% said they only buy from vendors they know and use CallingID to verify the validity of the site; -- 29% reported they have changed their buying habits and are now likely to shop from small merchants provided they see CallingID's report. "Results indicate that web users welcome guidance when surfing the Internet," said Yoram Nissenboim, CallingID CEO. "CallingID succeeded in protecting users from becoming fraud victims, while encouraging them to do more business with real sites. It provides information users need, telling them whether it is OK to trade with a site and when there is a potential risk they are given an immediate warning." CallingID's toolbar shows details and physical address of site owner. It instantly runs 53 verification tests on every website visited and evaluates the risk of doing business with that website. When any of these tests fail, the user is urged to reconsider the decision to login, or to place an order. CallingID's software can be downloaded for free from http://www.callingid.com/download.aspx. Installation is fast and simple. CallingID supports Internet Explorer and Firefox under Windows platforms (98, ME, 2000 and XP).
