Storms And News Drive Record 12.9 Million Online Visitors To Internet Broadcasting In November
25 December 2005Internet Broadcasting, an online news innovator, today announced a record 12.9 million online visitors for November 2005, a year-over-year increase of 26 percent. The company's comprehensive online local coverage of news and weather events during the period contributed to its record traffic, outpacing industry competitors. The company produces 73 TV station Web sites for America's premier broadcasters: NBC, Cox Broadcasting, Hearst-Argyle, The McGraw Hill Companies, Post-Newsweek, Scripps Howard, and Capitol Broadcasting Company
The 12.9 million visitors, as measured by Nielsen//NetRatings, exceeded the company's previous high of 12.2 million visitors set in January 2005 and places Internet Broadcasting ahead of notable news sites like NYTimes.com, USAToday.com, and Google News. Additionally, the record traffic made Internet Broadcasting the 44th largest online brand overall as measured by Nielsen's U.S. brand rankings for November.
Because Internet Broadcasting has a national reach, a variety of news and weather stories account for most of the visitor sessions. In November, traffic spiked because of several storms that broke out across the Midwest, Northeast and the Carolinas as well as news of a possible transit strike in New York.
«When news breaks or a storm rolls in, visitors go to their trusted news source for information they want, when they want it,» said Julie Burrows, Internet Broadcasting's executive vice president. «Our online editors in TV station newsrooms across the country report on comprehensive, quality news and information that affects people's daily lives. More and more visitors are making it a habit to check our news, helping us reach a new record.»
The visitor total represents an aggregation of users across Internet Broadcasting's national platform of 73 TV station Web sites including WNBC.com (New York), NBC4.tv (Los Angeles), and TheBostonChannel.com.
