Sorry State of Agricultural Economy Prompts South Dakota Farm Wife into Internet Ebiz Sales
27 November 2005A South Dakota farm wife and husband have launched an Internet sales business to fight falling farm revenue. With the changes in the environment and natural drought cycles, the midwestern farm economy is in a sorry state, so this couple are seeking a unique high tech answer to a common low tech problems, rising fuel costs and narrow profit margins. Hurricane (http://traffichurricanesourcecode.com/go/456) victims get all of the media attention, but they are not the only people with troubles this year, believe it or not. Here, buried deep in the belly of the Midwest, lies a small forgotten state called South Dakota. Now some of you may know it for its wide open spaces, Chinese ring-necked pheasants, Mount Rushmore and the Corn Palace, but much else goes on in this sparsely populated area. Mostly an agricultural-driven economy with little industrial development, when the farmers are not getting their way with the weather, all retail businesses suffer. This year, and to some extent last year in this agricultural area, the weather has not cooperated with sufficient rains to supply the growing crops with an average amount of rainfall. This falls harvest yields have returned to the levels not seen since the 1970’s. Alexandria, South Dakota farmer Dan Pueppke quips while referencing his wife, “We’ve been used to yields of more than twice these amounts for the last twenty-odd years. That’s why Lynette and I believe that we and others like us must find a way to survive that isn’t tied to the weather and other events beyond our control. Our rents and other inputs like fuel and fertilizer and chemicals and seed have risen while our commodities prices are still lagging decades behind. The American farmer is the best in the world at producing food, but where has it gotten us? We have flooded our market and there is no longer any profit in what we do. The rising cost of steel for our machines is astronomical. The real estate boom may be good for some but it kills the agricultural profits.” Through all of this doom and gloom, there may be a shining ray of hope for the adventuresome few that choose to chase its rainbow. Pueppke’s wife and partner Lynette, has, with his technical assistance, launched a new venture into the world of the Internet. They have been working on a new Internet e-biz that they hope will supplement the farm income and allow their four children to all make it through college. Lynette claims, “The new business is tied to our farming roots through its name, Dakota Daughter Enterprises, LLC. We hope to have our own site updated soon, http://www.dakotadaughter.com but, right now we are working with some affiliate marketing options such as this one. http://traffichurricanesourcecode.com/go/456 “ They state that they chose this offering because the Traffic Hurricane program can help webmasters easily create many pages of content using articles and RSS feeds all while creating search engine friendly pages with Google AdSense code embedded within. They have learned that these multiple revenue streams are what makes some Internet marketers so successful. Google’s Terms of Service don’t allow full disclosure, but some take home monthly checks with four to five figures. This program makes it not so tedious to get the job done. They have been learning-the-ropes for the last year by reading all the background marketing information that is so available on the Internet and have learned about multiple revenue streams and “Not putting all of your eggs in one basket”, says Lynette relating a real-life childhood story. Both Dan and Lynette have hopes for the future of making this work out and then sharing with others in this depressed area by teaching the locals to copy their business model. They have mentioned thoughts of a grant application to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for a community learning center to be built somewhere in this rural peaceful setting on the prairie. “That’s the ultimate goal, a sustainable dynamic rural life”, they both report, “It may not be always producing food.” You can see their current and future forays at http://traffichurricanesourcecode.com/go/456 and http://www.dakotadaughter.com .
