Smash Internet TV series Pure Pwnage to premiere Episode 11 at Bloor Cinema on June 18
15 June 2006 ROFLMAO Productions Inc. announces that the latest episode of the global smash hit Internet TV series "Pure Pwnage" will premiere at the Bloor Cinema (506 Bloor St. West, Toronto) on June 18th 2006. The show starts at 6:30pm. This marks the third premiere screening of an episode at the Bloor Cinema to a packed room of over 400 screaming fans. "For the premiere of episode 10 in March 2006, we had fans driving up from all over the United States, from New York, California, Missouri and more. A few fans even flew over from London, England just to see the episode," says Kyle, director of the show and president of ROFLMAO Productions. "Since we broadcast on the Internet, there are no borders. We have fans all over the world, though our largest fan base by far is in the United States". According to Kyle, "We have over 3 million regular viewers, that's more than most Canadian television shows and we are not even on TV." Kyle goes on to say, "Our show has grown virally. We don't advertise and yet our audience tends to double with every episode release. A lot of people, especially young people, are watching TV shows by downloading them from the Internet, mostly from illegal sources. Our fans love the fact that we are instead using the Internet as a legitimate and primary means to distribute the show." Dealing largely with online video gaming culture, the show has exploded over the past 2 years as millions of gamers worldwide discover and fall in love with the show's energetic characters and authentic Internet references. Pure Pwnage (pronounced "Pure Ownage") portrays the life of Jeremy, a self-proclaimed professional video game player who is seemingly unbeatable and reverentially titled "the ownerer". Through a combination of interviews and candid footage, shot by Jeremy's brother Kyle, a documentary film student, we follow Jeremy's days, and nights, and games. The last names of everyone involved with the production are closely guarded secrets. The show is completely uncredited and as such fans typically relate to the characters as real people, adding an interesting mystique to not only the show, but also its creators. Key characters, such as Jeremy and Anastasia, Jeremy's love interest and fellow hardcore gamer, have their own email addresses and blog pages where fans can write them and even chat with them online. Other characters include the legendary FPS_Doug ("Boom! Headshot!") and the inscrutable and mysterious Dave. Episode 10, released March 16 2006, was downloaded over 600,000 times in the first 24 hours of its release, and over 3 million times to date. Despite the large audience, the show is not eligible for the standard funding that fuels the Canadian television industry since it is only broadcast on the internet. The cost of production is covered entirely by merchandise sales from ROFLMAO Productions' online store. "We mostly sell T-shirts", Kyle laughs, "but we're quickly expanding our online store to carry a large variety of new products. Aside from the toques, hoodies, and stickers already available, we'll be seeing action figures, talkboxes, and computer peripherals before the end of 2006." With the proceeds from the online store, the cast and crew plan to create a feature-length Pure Pwnage movie in the next year. "It's really crazy how far the show has come" says Jeremy, the star of the show. "I'm often stopped on the street by incredibly excited kids asking for an autograph or a picture, sometimes it's a little overwhelming. I won't even walk near a High School anymore." The first 10 episodes of Pure Pwnage can be downloaded for free from their website at www.purepwnage.com. Episode 11 will be released for free on the internet on June 21st.
