Shavlik HFNetChkPro Includes First Integrated Anti-Spyware and Patch Management Product

solutions currently on the market, Shavlik NetChk Spyware is designed
specifically for the enterprise and is not simply an enhanced version of a
home user product. It is also fully integrated with Shavlik's widely-used
patch management product, Shavlik HFNetChkPro(TM).
Spyware has become an increasingly challenging problem for corporations
around the world and can adversely impact productivity, decrease bandwidth and
compromise network security by allowing computer hackers a foothold to
systems. Generally, spyware is defined as any type of software that is
remotely and oftentimes unknowingly installed on a computer with the purpose
of gathering stored information and sharing it with third parties. The
spyware issue gained additional exposure with the recent announcement from
Microsoft Corporation that the software manufacturer had entered this space
through the acquisition of Giant Company Software, Inc., a company which
produces a consumer anti-spyware product.
Industry analysts have noted the need for effective enterprise solutions
to the spyware problem. According to Arabella Hallawell, research vice
president at Gartner Research, this has been elevated to a critical need.
"Our clients report that spyware has become one of the most significant
security problems, and many are urgently evaluating strategies for removing
and preventing spyware."
According to Mark Shavlik, president and CEO of the company, Shavlik
Technologies' decision to enter the anti-spyware market is a logical extension
for the company as Shavlik has consistently focused on helping system
administrators easily secure their networks. "We're excited to leverage our
security expertise to help customers address the growing spyware problem.
Unlike consumer-focused product lines, our approach is to view spyware as a
corporate problem that should be managed by the IT professionals and systems

Shavlik also relied upon focus group input from key enterprise customers
to guide the company in the product design phase. "Many of these large

continued Mark Shavlik. "Building a solution for the spyware problem fits
into our overall strategy of providing security solutions to meet the needs of
our customers, whether it's patching, spyware or the next security risk. All
of these products will leverage our award-winning user interface and agentless
platform to enable administrators to easily and quickly manage security from a
single console in 30 minutes or less. We will continue to add additional
security management products as the market dictates."
Shavlik has gained a reputation in the security industry for building

This new product introduces Shavlik NetChk as the framework for the security
management products Shavlik will be announcing in 2005.
Shavlik NetChk Spyware is scheduled to be broadly available in the second
quarter of 2005. The product will be available directly from Shavlik or
through many of Shavlik's technology partners and resellers.
