New Social Networking Site Uses Innovative Concept to Facilitate Relationships Outside of the Internet
12 January 2006 BuddyMapper (http://www.buddymapper.com), the newest social networking site online seeks to shift social networking from online to offline. The social networking platform implemented allows users to visually use an online map to find other members with similar interests emphasizing relationships outside of the internet. This technology takes social networking in an entirely new direction by highlighting the benefits of location, providing users the ability to actually meet and activity together.
The innovative social networking system allows users to instantly find others who share similar interests within their neighborhood by zooming into their neighborhood and viewing/filtering profiles of other users within their vicinity. Members may create personal pages to express themselves along with other social networking functionalities such as blogging, photo sharing and messaging.
Whether it be finding a group to watch movies with on Friday nights or a group that enjoys doing arts and crafts together on weekends, BuddyMapper facilitates the creation of non-virtual relationships. Members have already created groups ranging from charities such as TeenHelp.org (http://www.buddymapper.com/group/TeenHelp) to Make-Out Clubs (http://www.buddymapper.com/group/SoCalMake-outClub).
BuddyMapper is a UC Berkeley student run startup using Google Maps technology and the internet to facilitate relationships outside of the internet.
