I always laugh at this because seriously, it doesn't matter. These inventories fluctuate all the time. In fact, they make for better trading since if it actually affects oil stocks, and they go down when inventories rise, we'll snatch them up for more trades. The thing is, the works can right now get all the oil it wants to everyone ... but barely. Everything is on full tap everywhere. Any minor disruption and prices can go way, way up. Even Suncor, our favorite oil stock will only have about 500,000 barrels at full capacity in a few yeas. That's only a blip in the big picture. And oil shale in Colorado? Hasn't even started. If oil prices will come down, it would take many, many years. So, in the meantime, expect oil prices to go up. As a trader, we don't see it as some "big conspiracy" really. But some folks do. You can blame it on emerging markets really. Those are the countries that want more and more oil People have asked me if I thought oil prices would affect U.S. growth. I don't think so. Gasoline is still cheaper in the U.S. than it was in Europe 5 years ago. Plus, the U.S. uses oil more effectively than other countries already when it come to production. Remember, all those other countries have so much tax on their gas, the government is making even more money that the oil companies! Think of that! And it's not like they're going out there and using that money for roads and transportation. Governments only know how to do one thing with money.
