FedEx Freight Enhances Online Shipping Capabilities
27 February 2005The innovative online offerings place FedEx Freight, a leading provider of regional and interregional less-than-truckload ( LTL ) services in the U.S., at the industry forefront in providing critical shipment data to customers.
"We`ve responded to FedEx Freight customer requests to streamline our online shipping processes by enhancing the efficiency and capabilities of our suite of tools," said Sherry Aaholm, senior vice president of Information Technology for FedEx Services. "These enhancements will help shippers save time and increase their productivity by making it easier to conduct transactions and receive documentation via the web." Site enhancements include:
My Account Homepage
Once customers log onto the "My Account" password-protected site, they automatically see a calendar view of their shipping activity by account number, including estimated delivery and shipment pickup dates, which eliminates the need to enter individual shipment numbers or contact FedEx Freight to track shipments. This information will assist companies in planning product inventory and staffing. Customers can also view a snapshot of the on-time percentage for their delivered shipments for the current month, allowing them to track and manage operational trends. The format for viewing shipment information can be customized by logging onto the Web site.
Online Pickup Request
A key site enhancement enables customers to receive a pickup confirmation number for each request, and have easy access to shipment pickup request details for the previous 90 days. FedEx Freight has also added the ability to create customized templates that eliminate the need to re-key information for frequently-used pickup information. What`s more, all "My Account" customers will receive a second email confirmation once the driver has been assigned to pickup a shipment.
Online Bill of Lading Generator
By logging onto "My Account," customers can access the updated Bill of Lading generator to instantly print Bills of Lading or shipping labels - and email them directly to interested parties. Customers may also use the information to instantly request a rate quote, schedule a pickup, save and re-use frequently-used shipping information in easy-to-use templates, view historical shipment information for up to 90 days, and save shipment details in a personalized address book and commodity/classification list. These offerings comprise an intuitive online toolkit that makes it easy to complete freight paperwork.
Wireless Convenience
Customers may also receive shipping information via wireless device with FedEx Wireless Solutions, an enhancement that makes it easy to track the status of FedEx shipments. A customer simply enters tracking numbers and may send results to as many as three e-mail addresses. Customers are encouraged to learn more about how to install and setup FedEx Wireless Solutions, and experience the convenience of receiving shipping information via wireless device by calling 1-800-435-7949 or visiting the FedEx Freight web site at fedex.com.
Improved Online Tools for Shipments To/From Canada
FedEx Freight has also added seamless, end-to-end online tracking capabilities and a pickup request feature for shipments to and from Canada, and has created an online point-to-point transit time calculation capability between pickup points and destinations in both the U.S. and Canada.
Becoming a "My Account" user
To become a registered FedEx Freight "My Account" user, a customer may go to the FedEx Freight home page and click on the "Register" link under the Welcome Center heading. Once the customer fills out an online registration form and selects a User ID and password, the information will be validated and the customer will receive an e-mail confirmation within two business days. A dedicated team of specially-trained customer service representatives are also available to answer questions about the FedEx Freight Web site at 1-800-435-7949.
