Aussie Upstart Challenges Microsoft for Internet Desktop Supremacy

31 March 2005

“The Kangaroo Challenge is on”, Hughes says. WOWdesk, a product of the well-established Australian, Adapt IT firm has audaciously challenged not only Microsoft, but Yahoo and Google, and for that matter, every internet power that exists for ‘Internet Desktop Supremacy’. An ‘Internet Desktop’ is a new term for a place on the web where you can manage all your personal and even business data. Even though WOWdesk is relatively new, Adapt IT is not. They have been in the Internet business since 1995 and have some impressive credentials, like web-enabling the Australian Navy.

When asked what the challenge means, WOWdesk founder Ron Hughes said, “It’s time to take the gloves off, Mate. The Kangaroo Challenge is on!”

‘Portability’ is the catch phrase of the day and WOWdesk claims to have everything that the person on the street needs to make the Internet truly portable. “It’s kind of like having the internet in your pocket”, says Hughes. “I don’t carry a notebook computer any more, because I can access all of my documents, pictures, calendars, favorite links, email lists and contacts wherever there’s an internet café”. Although this sounds minor Hughes said, even a simple thing like not having access to your favorites when you are away from your own computer can be a real inconvenience!

By keeping your information like this on a portable desktop that you can access from anywhere, you always have your favorite links with you. It’s really liberating to be able to operate from anywhere says Ron Hughes, the CEO of Adapt IT. I sort of carry it in my pocket wherever I go, just like a Kangaroo!” One thing that you will find really helpful is that your data is always backed up automatically and you can get a copy anytime. It is usually a big relief to people to know they won’t lose their data ever again.

Hughes said, “Look, I respect the work my colleagues at Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google have done to make the internet easier, but nobody seems to have considered making it truly portable. PDA’s (personal digital assistants) are too fiddly for anything but the simplest tasks, and it’s really expensive and inconvenient when they are broken, lost or stolen! WOWdesk has made your information securely portable at last, and this is what the Kangaroo Challenge is all about. And to prove it, I’m looking for one million users to try out WOWdesk for a month for free. I want to show that this is all internet users need to have all their information at their fingertips. C’mon, join the Kangaroo Challenge and experience a whole lot more freedom! ”
