8x8 Signs Agreement With Brightpoint to Offer Packet8 Internet Phone Services Through VAR and SI Network
8 January 2006 2006 CONSUMER ELECTRONICS SHOW, LAS VEGAS, Jan. 5 -- 8x8, Inc. (Nasdaq: EGHT), the Packet8 broadband Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) and videophone communications service provider, today announced it has signed an agreement with Wireless Fulfillment Services, LLC, a subsidiary of Brightpoint, Inc. (Nasdaq: CELL), calling for the distribution of Packet8 Internet phone services and related equipment into its Value Added Reseller (VAR) and System Integrator (SI) channel. Through its online Wireless Enterprise Solutions (WES) program (wes.brightpoint.com), Brightpoint's nationwide network of Value Added Resellers and System Integrators will serve as sub-agents for Packet8 residential and business service plans. Brightpoint will warehouse, activate, provision, program and fulfill Packet8 devices, eliminating the need for sub-agents to maintain device inventory while at the same time allowing them to receive commissions for the activation of Packet8 VoIP services. Additionally, the WES website will provide Brightpoint's customers with access to its catalog of wireless accessories, mobile applications and content to provide customers with a bundled wireless solution. "By focusing on the wireless and mobility needs of the enterprise market, Brightpoint is creating a valuable opportunity for its dealers to augment their business with targeted solutions like Packet8 Virtual Office," said 8x8 Vice President of Sales & Marketing Huw Rees. "We are very pleased to partner with Brightpoint in this effort to introduce small businesses to a phone solution that will dramatically cut their telecommunications costs while enhancing productivity and growth." Packet8 Virtual Office is an affordable, easy-to-use alternative to traditional PBX systems that allows users anywhere in the world to be part of a VoIP-hosted virtual phone system that includes auto attendants, conference bridges, extension-to-extension dialing, business class voicemail and ring groups, in addition to a rich variety of other business class PBX features normally found on premise based PBX systems. Virtual Office reduces an organization's telecommunications total cost of ownership (TCO) with a minimal initial investment combined with unlimited local and long distance business calling in the United States and Canada and access to Packet8's low international rates. "Brightpoint's agreement with 8x8, Inc. is firmly in line with our goal to develop strategic relationships that will allow us to deliver emerging technology products and services to our channel customers," said David H. Brown, Senior VP of Brightpoint's Advanced Wireless Services group. "With Packet8's Virtual Office service, Brightpoint's network of VARs and System Integrators will be able to provide a turnkey VoIP solution to their business and enterprise customers."
