30Gigs.com Takes on Internet Giants
2 March 2006 After only two months online, the internet community is abuzz with news about 30Gigs.com. The recently-launched e-mail server - still in beta development - offers 30 gigabytes of personal file storage per customer account. This is 10 to 30 times the amount of storage space offered on competitor's sites, such as MSN's Hotmail, Yahoo! and Google, according to Patrick Thona, chief executive officer of Thona Network and 30Gigs.com. And, while others charge premiums for more storage, 30Gigs.com is a free service. "Because we are a small company trying to compete with the big Internet giants, many people were skeptical," Thona said. "They thought we wouldn't last more than a few weeks." But the Web site is here to stay, Thona said. Word is spreading about 30Gigs.com through invites to the site. "We have more than 130,000 registered users with thousands joining daily," said Thona. "We should reach one million users within the next four to six months." While currently in beta testing stage, the company may open registrations to the public in the near future. According to Thona, 30Gigs.com started off with the idea of creating an "all-in-one" site for the Web master and avid computer users. In addition to offering personal file storage, the site features mail filtering, drag-and-drop emails to folders, an address book, GD2 signature maker (which aids in protecting your email from spam robots) and an anonymous email services. Eventually, the site may expand to offer registered members as much as 50 to 100 gigabytes of personal file storage, he added. "We also offer a unique feature, which allows you to send an e-mail from any address you want. This is very useful if you have multiple accounts linked to your 30Gigs.com account, and want to send a email from e-mail protected from spam bots," Thona explained. "Our goal is to be able to give users what they are looking for -- a fast, reliable e-mail service with tons of personal file storage space."
