30DayTags.com - Launches the First People-Powered Internet Search Engine.
9 February 2006 Ever been perplexed about what keywords to use in your search? Tired of sifting through outdated results from your search engines? Suddenly the speed of the Internet has just been reduced to a traffic jam. Enter 30DayTags.com, a "fresh" approach to not only finding what you need on the web but also for website owners, bloggers, eBay'ers, etc. to list their sites, tags, and links as well. It uses a unique approach to tagging and ranking results, which allows users to search sites based on "tags" or keywords that other people have already related to their links or have deemed useful. Users say tagging can simplify online endeavors and are quickly replacing the current method of "categories" on the web. It also makes it easier for website owners to correctly index their websites within databases and search engines. Unlike other tagging sites, 30DayTags.com, launched by Jon Myers and David Hunegnaw, takes tagging to a whole new level with their patent-pending "Fresh Tags and Free Delivery" method. Every tag has a 30-day expiration date. So if a tag and a link are placed on the site, it's good for only 30 days. Tags can, however, be refreshed for free. Additionally, users can sign up for RSS (Really Simple Syndication) feeds and get updates for any particular tag. According to a 2005 report from the Pew Internet & American Life Project, "Only 17% of Internet users say they always find what they are looking for when they use a search engine. With over 85% of American Internet users claiming to have used an online search engine to find information on the Web and 29% of Internet users rely on a search engine on a typical day that's a substantial gap and a desire for a new way to find information." "We believe that user behavior can be one of the best indicators of the value or relevancy of a particular website," said Myers. "Our aim is to provide a means to capture that relevancy and keep it fresh." According to a recent Wall Street Journal article, "demand for the new sites reflects many Web surfer's frustration with current search technology. The major search engines are all built around different algorithms that attempt to determine the most relevant sites for a particular search." Additionally, Forrester Research analyst Hellen Omwando stated, "In addition to better technology, Google should add some human editors to help prevent manipulation," she said based on a recent incident involving Google and automaker BMW. "We felt that human-editors were better at determining relevancy than machine algorithms. With 30DayTags we created a totally open experience that would empowers human-editors to deliver better results," said Myers. "The site is driven by its users," adds Hunegnaw. "People who want to promote a site and the users who want to search for a site can do so in just a few clicks. Our goal is to provide an exceptional experience by giving users exactly what they want in five clicks or less. No keyboard required." About 30DayTags 30DayTags.com is a free social search engine that harnesses the power of tagging to simplify Internet search and site promotion. Content is kept relevant and fresh by every tag having a 30-day expiration date. The aim of 30DayTags is to leverage the power of people to provide a better search experience.
